MGM has released the first official trailer for José Padilha’s remake of RoboCop starring Joel Kinnaman. The prospects of a RoboCop remake seemed promising at first but now it just seems like a bad idea. Check out the trailer below.
In the film, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
Even though it looks like there are some nods to the 1987 original, it looks like the remake may steer into Total Recall remake territory. The film features a cast that includes Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, and Jennifer Ehle.
RoboCop will arrive in theaters on February 7th, 2014. What do you think of the trailer?
