First Trailer For NC-17 Rated Killer Joe, Starring Matthew McConaughey

I’ve really been a fan of Matthew McConaughey lately. He was hilarious in Tropic Thunder a few years back and even better in The Lincoln Lawyer. It’s just so refreshing seeing him actually put his talent to good use, instead of those typical romance flicks with Kate Hudson.

His latest starring film is called Killer Joe and it’s directed by The Exorcist director William Friedkin. Killer Joe looks twisted and flat-out weird, but this newly released trailer has my attention.

The NC-17 rated film also stars Emilie Hirsch, Juno Temple and Thomas Haden Church. It’s being described as a twisted, yet hilarious romance. I don’t get that from the trailer, but it does indicate that there’s something we’re not quite seeing. I love it when trailers sell you on one thing and what you get is something entirely different, so I think this will be the last video I watch for the film, until I see it.

Killer Joe is set to open on July 27th, 2012.

Synopsis:

When 22-year-old Chris (Emile Hirsch) finds himself in debt to a drug lord, he hires a hit man to dispatch his mother, whose $50,000 life insurance policy benefits his sister Dottie (Juno Temple). Chris finds Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a creepy, crazy Dallas cop who moonlights as a contract killer. When Chris can’t pay Joe upfront, Joe sets his sight on Dottie as collateral for the job. The contract killer and his hostage develop an unusual bond. Like from a modern-day, twisted fairy tale, “Killer Joe” Cooper becomes the prince to Dottie’s Cinderella. Based on the play by Pulitzer and Tony Award winner Tracy Letts, “Killer Joe” is a garish, provocative black comedy from Academy Award-winning director William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection) and stars Emile Hirsch, Matthew McConaughey, Juno Temple, Thomas Hayden Church, and Gina Gershon.
