Marvel is slowly starting to welcome us back to the movies and their larger Cinematic Universe as they ease us back into the swing of things with Black Widow and later this fall, Eternals.
Eternals comes from director Chloe Zhao (Nomadland) and is looking to shake things up dramatically, by presenting us with a new set of characters that have been around for thousands of years, only to quietly sit back in the shadows, until this very moment.
This means that Zhao will have to cover lots of ground as she introduces us to these new characters and attempts to explain just what they’ve been up to over the years.
I will say, this first trailer is both beautiful and different. I’ve already seen some comparing the visual artistry to the likes of Terrence Malick in terms of the natural photography and lighting.
I wouldn’t disagree with these claims, but I’d also be willing to bet that we are seeing lots of B-roll footage and I’d rather reserve my judgment for a full-length trailer and of course, the eventual film itself.
Still, I am excited to see Marvel enter a new era and start branching off with new characters and stories that might not be as familiar to the general public. I am also excited to see what Zhao has cooked up as the visuals are painting a grand picture that I cannot wait to see more of.
Eternals opens this November. Check out the trailer below:
