The first trailer for Bryan Singer‘s Jack the Giant Killer has been released online. I heard that many people thought this was a fake trailer at first, and despite the extremely corny nature of it, I think Singer is kind of pulling it off. Synopsis: “A modern day fairy tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened, as a young farmer leads an expedition into the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess.”
I’m still on the fence about this one, while it looks corny, I think it could end up being an entertaining re-imagining of a classic fairy tale story. At the same time, this is not a film to be taken seriously on any level. As you’ll see in the trailer, it fits well into Singer’s world of big f/x and fantasy worlds that he works so well in.
The movie stars Nicholas Hoult (Skins) as Jack, and it also features Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Ian McShane, and Stanley Tucci. Quite a cast for a such a silly concept, and the fact that there are a few screenwriters usually doesn’t mean greatness, but at the same time, anyone willing to see a film about a giant beanstalk really won’t care about the script that much.
Jack the Giant Killer opens June 15, 2012. See the trailer below:
