Director David Ayer, writer of such titles like Training Day, Dark Blue and S.W.A.T. and director of Street Kings has returned for his latest cop drama titled End of Watch. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as a pair of LA cops that stumble upon a drug cartel and quickly become most wanted targets.
This time around David Ayer has made use of hand-held cameras to give the viewer a first-hand look at the intensity and risk that cop’s deal with every day in these types of situations. I’m not sure if I’m entirely on board with this approach, but I will say that the trailer, provided by Collider, actually looks kind of good, especially with the hand-held shots.
I can see it getting to be a little too much at times, but as long as Ayer keeps the shots different and purposeful I’ll give the film a look.
End of Watch also stars Anna Kendrick and Frank Grillo. The film opens on September 28th, 2012.
