Directors John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle are relatively unknown names to most, yet they’ve been responsible for a decent amount of horror output in the world of films. They were in charge of the [REC] remake, titled Quarantine and they also gave us the decent elevator thriller Devil. Again, none of these films are all that spectacular, but decent and mostly solid efforts that make their names worth keeping an eye on.
Now, they’ve got another horror film coming out and I urge you to check out the trailer and give this one a fair shake before lazily dubbing it a ripoff of The Descent.
Sure, this one features a group of people in a claustrophobic cave-like underground setting, but the more you watch the trailer the more you start to get a glimpse of what the film is really about, which seems to have something to do with Hell and facing past memories.
The less I know about this film the better, because nothing is better than going into a horror movie completely blind.
As Above, So Below looks creepy and dense and scary and imaginative and unlike something that Legendary Pictures would usually release.
Are you going to give it a chance?
