Those of us that have been waiting for Alfonso Cuaron to follow-up one of the single best science fiction movies ever made, Children of Men, will not have to wait anymore, because Cuaron’s newest film Gravity is almost here.
It opens in October and today we have our first teaser trailer for the film, which is one part calm and beautiful and two parts terrifying. This minute and a half clip shows us our characters, played by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, while also showing us the film’s main premise, which is simply that of two astronauts getting detached from their space shuttle, leaving them with nothing but each other to fight off the dark fears of space.
I’ve never been drawn to a screen this quickly. Shots of this look like they were actually filmed in space, opposed to some CGI in a studio. There has been talk of Cuaron’s use of long takes and I hope it’s all true, because Children of Men still holds a warm spot in my heart for having such a gripping take.
Gravity could very well be the best film of the year, folks. Cuaron knows sci-fi and given the talent I’m willing to go on a limb here and say that Gravity might have a chance at some Oscar gold if it plays well in front of both audiences and critics.
It’s getting a 3D IMAX release, which I can already say is the only way that this film should be experienced.
Are you anticipating Gravity at all?
