It’s been nearly seven years since writer and director Phil Morrison’s excellent indie film Junebug was released. For whatever reason, Morrison took an extended break from directing features but is now finally back in the game. The Tribeca Film Festival announced their slate for this year’s festival yesterday and it appears that Phil Morrison’s next feature Almost Christmas will be making its anticipated premiere. The first official photos have made their way online.
Almost Christmas, formerly titled Lucky Dog, stars Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti as two rival French-Canadian conmen who pair up on a get-rich-quick scheme to sell Christmas trees in New York. The dark comedy co-stars the always-impressive Sally Hawkins.
I must say, this film has potential for greatness. I would’ve never expected Rudd and Giamatti to appear in a film together. They’re both fantastic actors so it’ll be great to see them work together in an offbeat comedy. This is easily one of my most anticipated films of the year. Check out the first official images below:
Almost Christmas will be premiering at Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from April 17th-18th, so we’ll be reading more about this film soon enough. It’s safe to assume that we’ll be seeing this film arrive in theaters by December (or at least I can hope). Oh, and please watch Phil Morrison’s feature Junebug if you haven’t seen it yet.
