Actor Ben Foster is barely recognizable as Lance Armstrong in the first image from Stephen Frears‘ upcoming, still untitled biopic. In addition to Alex Gibney‘s documentary The Armstrong Lie, this film is one of three feature films that will be telling the story of the controversial former champion cyclist. The film, directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen and Philomena), just started filming last week and Empire has already revealed the first look at Ben Foster in character (pictured above).
The film, written by John Hodge (Trainspotting, The Beach, and Trance), focuses on the disgraced cyclist’s battle with cancer and the controversy surrounding his use of performance enhancing drugs. Chris O’Dowd co-stars in the film as Irish sports journalist David Walsh, who was one of the first to question Armstrong. The cast includes Jesse Plemons, Nathan Wiley, Bryan Greenberg, and Guillaume Cant. It’s wise to predict that we’ll see this sometime next year, perhaps at one of the major film festivals next fall?
