Yes, Zack Snyder‘s visionary graphic novel adaptation 300 is getting a sequel and no he didn’t direct it. He had his hand in producing, but Noam Murro took over directing duties, which leads me to believe that this sequel will probably not get even close to reaching the potential of the original.
And WB is marketing this one very lightly, only now revealing images and a poster for the film, despite its August release date.
Murro went on to discuss the film below:
“[Rise of an Empire] happens over time in many different locations. The opportunities for the six distinct battles are even greater with different locations and tactics… The few against the many is still here. It’s hundreds vs. hundreds of thousands. It’s about taking on the mightiest power of all with wisdom and tactics,”
With that being said, today we’ve got some new images for the film, which look very similar to Snyder’s style, but still feel a little cheap. There’s also a brand new poster, which I posted up above.
My interest for a 300 sequel is very low, even if I thought the original film was a visual masterpiece, soaked in blood and dripping with style. I just can’t get behind a sequel that has no reason existing, especially this many years after the original.
300: Rise of an Empire opens on August 2nd, 2013.
