Thanks to the guys over at CHUD.com, who have been following Detention since its premiere at SXSW Film Festival last year, have shared the first clip from the movie, as well as announced when and where you can see the film, which the official synopsis describes thusly:
“A slasher-movie killer frightens a group of teens during their senior year of high school.”
Reviews have found the film to be hilarious, hard edged and self-confident, which some people may find hard to believe, as director Joseph Kahn is best known for his Blink 182 and the ridiculous motorcycle film Torque a few years ago. Here, he subverts a few genres in order to bring us yet another reinvention of the modern slasher film, and as you’ll see in the clip below, it looks funny and kinetic, reminding me a lot of Edgar Wright‘s films, which can only be a good thing in my opinion.
The film, starring Josh Hutcherson, Spencer Locke, and Dane Cook as the principal, is getting a limited release in various AMC theaters across the country on April 13th, 2012, and below are the cities and theaters where it will play:
Atlanta – Southlake 24 Pavilion
Boston – Boston Commons
Chicago – River East
Houston – Studio 30
Los Angeles – Burbank 16
Miami – Aventura
New York – Empire
San Diego – Mission Valley
San Francisco – Metreon
Seattle – Pacific Place
