It looks like Sony is aiming to pack no surprises in their upcoming sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The first film had a somewhat troubled path getting to theaters, meaning that giant chunks of the story were altered and parts were even re-filmed in order for them to scrap the idea of Peter Parker genetically engineered to be Spider-Man, hence the whole “untold story” angle of the marketing.
But Sony got cold feet and they ended up bringing a story to screens that was mostly the same as the original, if not tweaked around just enough to make for a film that I enjoyed a great deal.
I’m excited for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but I’m worried that the marketing department has no control over what footage that they’re revealing. This final theatrical trailer shows way too much and practically spells out the film’s entire story. I’m afraid that I’ve already pieced together whatever “twists” remain and even though it sounds like a fun ride, I still would have much rather discovered it via the film versus all of the trailers and teasers.
This one looks like a villain-heavy sequel that will hopefully expand the universe of Spider-Man and his surrounding characters. This is definitely a sequel builder and I sure hope that it turns out to be one worth getting behind.
Are you excited or more worried for this one? It drops in theaters this May.
