Following the initial rumor that Diana Prince (a.k.a. Wonder Woman) will appear in Zack Snyder’s currently untitled Man of Steel sequel (we’ll follow the trend and deem it as Batman vs. Superman for now). Names like Gal Gadot, Elodie Young, and Olga Kurylenko emerged as possibilities for the role of the Amazon heroine. This was all strictly rumor until very recently as Variety has confirmed that Fast & Furious star Gal Gadot has officially landed the iconic role in the sequel that’ll introduce Ben Affleck as Batman as he seemingly squares off against Henry Cavill as Superman.
Zack Snyder recently made a statement confirming the casting. “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” Snyder said. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
It’s unclear how Wonder Woman will factor into Batman vs. Superman. Perhaps she’ll only be briefly introduced before she gets the spotlight in her own film or the inevitable Justice League. It’s obviously clear now that the DC Universe has big plans and they’re certainly not wasting any time to introduce iconic characters.
Batman vs. Superman arrives in theaters on July 17th, 2015. The sequel will star Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. What do you think of the casting choice?
