Well shit. We’ve got A Good Day to Die Hard landing next month with a confirmed R-rating and following it just a short month later is Training Day director Antoine Fuqua‘s Olympus Has Fallen, which lands on March 22nd, 2013.
Fuqua’s film is the first of two films that have a plot dealing with the White House getting attacked and blown up. This one features Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Gerard Butler, while the “other” one (titled White House Down) features Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. It doesn’t hurt to mention that Down is a Roland Emmerich film. He sort of knows a thing or two when it comes to blowing things up in an expert fashion.
Still, Olympus Has Fallen has time it its favor and it looks like a good bit of fun. I’ll admit that some of the special effects shots in the trailer are cheap-looking, but this is our first actual look at the film, so maybe they’re doing some wrapping up and fine detailing on the effects.
The MPAA rating also could slant this film in one direction or the other. Is it going to be an R-rated action film, with bloody shootouts and lots of much-needed cursing or will it be aiming at the PG-13 crowd, with a plan of attack to blow things up safely and with a certain amount of measure.
Time will tell my friends.
The film opens on March 22nd, 2013.
