The Expendables series might be one of the most frustrating series of films to have ever been constructed. The first film tried way too hard to capture that silly action magic of the 80s and 90s, but it did it in all the wrong ways, forcing CGI blood and limiting the actual action.
It was mostly just full of cameos and wasted talent and potential, yet those that saw it will defend it as a perfect recreation of the films from the past.
The second film on the other hand, featured the best villain (JCVD), while also allowing a little more humor to drip into the franchise, but it was still under-written and over-hyped as a collection of faded action stars with no real purpose.
Then the third one went and got itself a PG-13 rating, which felt like game over, but ended up being the most entertaining one of them all, despite continuing to fumble where these stars once succeeded.
It also didn’t make as much money as the previous two, which made us assume that the franchise became a trilogy.
But have no fear, because The Expendables 4 is coming sometime in 2018 and it will feature the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham.
There are no other confirmed names at this time, but expect an endless supply of familiar faces and names.
