Emma Watson Will Not Be ‘Cinderella’ For Disney

Only a short time ago, we reported that Emma Watson was in contention for the titular role in Disney’s live-action reboot of Cinderella. It looks like Disney will have to keep searching because Emma Watson has turned down the role according to Variety‘s Marc Graser.

It seems like the entire production has been running into obstacles. At one point, One Hour Photo director Mark Romanek was set to direct the film but dropped out due to creative differences with Disney. Thankfully, for right now at least, Kenneth Branagh is still attached to direct and Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is still set to appear as the evil stepmother.

As of this moment, there’s no specific reason as to why Emma Watson turned down the role. If I were guess, it may have something to do with the fact that she’s attached to star in the Guillermo Del Toro-produced Beauty & The Beast that’s aiming to begin production this year.

I’m sure Kenneth Branagh and Disney will find their princess in the very near future. Disney hopes to begin production on Cinderella this fall for a 2014 release.
