Doug Liman‘s Edge of Tomorrow is that rare Tom Cruise action film that goes by almost unnoticed. Most are looking forward to him running away from Egypt in The Mummy, while others are hedging their bets for the next Mission: Impossible.
Yet I am looking forward to Edge of Tomorrow 2, because the first film was a low-key excellent sci-fi film that for whatever reason, never slam-dunked at the box office.
It did okay, obviously — a sequel is already coming, but it didn’t quite set the world on fire.
If you don’t recall, Edge of Tomorrow was the film about Tom Cruise playing a solider that keeps reliving the same day in battle, eventually helping Emily Blunt‘s character fight off an evil alien race.
It was so well-known that WB decided to basically re-name the film for home video, which went from Edge of Tomorrow to Live.Die.Repeat.
That name stuck so hard that the studios decided to title the sequel Live Die Repeat and Repeat, instead of my proposed: Today’s Yesterday’s Tomorrow.
Cruise, Blunt and director Doug Liman are all scheduled to return, but at this moment we simply do not know when that will be.
Dig the quote:
We have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film. It will be called Live Die Repeat and Repeat. Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it. The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an if, it’s a when.
