Out of all of the 90s television properties set for a big screen adaptation I’d normally say that Baywatch isn’t very far up on the “need to see it” list, but yet somehow the involvement of Dwayne Johnson and the promise of an R-rating has me hooked.
Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon will be in charge of the film, with Zac Efron starring opposite of The Rock in a film that can be described as tonally familiar with the 21 Jump Street series of films, which brought lots of creative laughter and pokes and jabs at the series that it was based on.
THR‘s scoop details the film:
The story centers on a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead (Efron) in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon.
Baywatch will likely start filming in February of 2016, with a 2017 release most likely.
