‘Dredd’ Sequel Not Likely

Does anyone remember what they were doing last September? Probably not out seeing and supporting Pete Travis‘ violently awesome Dredd adaptation, which starred Karl Urban as the futuristic lawman. Dredd‘s going to slip into cult status any day now and sadly we probably won’t have a sequel to look forward to anytime soon, unless someone starts a Kickstarter or something, but those never work… right?

Producer Adi Shankar dropped this golden nugget not too long ago on a Reddit Q & A when asked if a sequel was coming:

Probably not. But I am working on a Dredd short in the vein of #DirtyLaundry … you’re actually the first person to know about this …

Bummer, but still good knowing that they haven’t completely abandoned the character. I just wish more people showed up for the film when it came out. It had a strong marketing campaign and looked like loads of fun in virtually every trailer, so why the lacking audience? People eventually got around to it when it hit Blu-ray and DVD, but home video sales seem to have little impact these days.
