Disney’s plans for a live-action reboot of Cinderella has ran into a series of obstacles over the past year. At one point, One Hour Photo director Mark Romanek was set to direct the film but dropped out due to creative differences with Disney. Just a month ago, Emma Watson was in serious contention for the titular role but turned it down. Now a month later, it looks like director Kenneth Baranagh and Disney have finally found their Cinderella.
24-year-old actress Lily James, who plays Lady Rose MacClare in the PBS series Downtown Abbey, has landed the role of Cinderella in the upcoming live-action reboot. This is clearly a huge career step up for the actress. Besides Downtown Abbey, Lily James has appeared in the TV series Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Wrath of the Titans.
No official release date has been set as of yet. Disney is planning to start production this fall for a 2014 release. Check back for more casting updates.
