Director David R. Ellis Has Passed Away

Today we’ve unfortunately came across the news of director David R. Ellis passing away this morning in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was only 60 years old.

Ellis is known mostly for his directing efforts on such films as Snakes on a Plane, Cellular, Final Destination 2, The Final Destination and Shark Night 3D.

He was currently in South Africa getting ready to start production on his upcoming film KITE.

If I’d have to pick my favorite Ellis film I’d probably have to say Snakes on a Plane, because he managed to make Samuel L. Jackson an even bigger star in such a loony film that surprisingly worked more than it didn’t. Ellis certainly had an eye for playing up questionable concepts on the big screen with a certain level of fun and entertainment in mind, but his work mostly speaks for itself. He’s made some decent films in the various genres that he’s played in and learning of his death is a sad thing for everyone.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
