Following the announcement that director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond The Pines) will be directing the adaptation of the novel The Light Between Oceans and the ESPN film Those Guys Have All The Fun, Cianfrance recently revealed that he has yet another project in development. During a conversation with Jeff Goldsmith on his podcast, Cianfrance revealed that he is going to be collaborating with his The Place Beyond The Pines co-writer Darius Marder on a film adaptation of DC’s adult comic story A Cotton Candy Autopsy.
Cianfrance also revealed that Ben Mendelsohn (who had a memorable supporting role in The Place Beyond The Pines) is going to be starring in the adaptation, which he describes as “crazy”. For those of you who are unaware of the original comic, A Cotton Candy Autopsy was a story from the DC adult comic series Beautiful Stories For Ugly Children, which was printed from 1989 to 1992. The story follows a group of clowns who head out on a road trip after one of them burns down their circus. Seems pretty crazy, doesn’t it?
It remains unclear if Cianfrance will officially make this film his next project. With Mendelsohn already attached to the lead role, it seems very plausible that we’ll be seeing this become a reality before the other projects that he has lined up. Make sure to check back for more updates on A Cotton Candy Autopsy as they come our way.
