One of the biggest unknowns to come out of DC’s FanDome event this year was James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad. For those of you confused, this is Gunn’s sort of sequel, sort of reboot on DC’s Suicide Squad property, which was last brought to the big screen by David Ayer and starred Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jared Leto.
Most have agreed that Ayer’s Suicide Squad is one of the worst movies to ever have been filmed. I do recall enjoying moments of it, mostly including the performances from Robbie and Smith and a few others (I am looking at you Jai Courtney).
Luckily for us, the sequel never really happened and James Gunn got picked up to write/direct the film after Disney dropped him from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 over some stupid tweets he made years ago, only to realize they were idiots, thus rehiring Gunn after he already agreed to The Suicide Squad.
Now that we have that out of the way — I am here to tell you that his new film looks bonkers. There’s a talking shark, among a rag tag team of Gotham baddies that are again offered a reduced sentence if they help complete some shady missions.
Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney are both returning, as well as Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman. But now we are getting Idris Elba, John Cena, Pete Davidson and a handful of others to join the crew.
Gunn didn’t drop a traditional trailer during the event, instead a roll-call lineup video, followed by a behind-the-scenes exclusive, which again talks about how insane this movie is and how it’s likely going to be very different and very awesome.
Watch one of the clips up above and peak the other one down below, followed by an insanely great poster.
