Fox is currently filming their Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. We’ve covered various casting rumors extensively as well as Matt Reeves taking over for Rupert Wyatt as the director.

Now we’ve got our first official look at the logo for the film, plus a synopsis:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

I’ve never been big into the Apes mythology, so I can’t comment on how close this one will be playing towards previous films, but many have mentioned its strong ties with Battle For the Planet of the Apes.

All I’m hoping for at this point is a high-quality film that resembles Rise. That film blew me away and I honestly wasn’t even expecting it to be half good. Andy Serkis‘ motion-capture work should have earned him and Oscar, but it didn’t and now maybe he’ll go for the gold again with another jaw-dropping performance as Caesar the head ape.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for release on May 23rd, 2014.
