Screenwriter David S. Goyer has always been a tricky man in Hollywood for me. On one hand, the man helped write both the highs and lows of the Blade series as well as The Dark Knight trilogy. While on the other hand he had a major role in the downfalls of Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel.
He’s a very hit or miss writer that sometimes nails the source material and transfers it brilliantly, while also sometimes butchering perfectly fine characters and stories.
So naturally I’m indifferent on the idea of him wanting to reboot Green Lantern. The first film adaptation, starring Ryan Reynolds, was mostly horrible and something that we should probably just forget altogether. But now S. Goyer wants to give the character another shot, going as far as saying the following:
I would love to do ‘Green Lantern,’” Goyer said when he was asked about the way the alien world was depicted in Man of Steel versus how it was shown in Green Lantern. “I really wanted to showcase Krypton as a truly alien world. That was one of the things I wanted to do from the beginning when I got involved in the project. At his heart, Superman’s always been a science fiction story. I wanted to lean into that, and so did Chris, and so did Zack, so I was just glad we were able to.
Could he nail down the character if given the chance or should we just let this one rest for another decade or two?
