Joel and Ethan Coen haven’t had a film in wide release since 2010’s True Grit. It’s been far too long and I can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with next. The film is titled Inside Llewyn Davis and it stars Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake and John Goodman.
It’s a drama focused on a struggling folk-singing musician, played by Isaac. The opening has some trademark Coen humor and wit, while the rest unravels as a period piece shot with a gloomy, yet strong eye for detail. I love the way it looks and while the material doesn’t initially feel very Coen-ish, I keep reminding myself that it’s near impossible to cut a good trailer for a Coen movie without revealing too much of the film.
Inside Llewyn Davis has no distribution or release date yet, but hopefully we can expect it before the year ends.
