Christopher McQuarrie Expected To Return For Another ‘Mission: Impossible’

Christopher McQuarrie helped bring new life to Tom Cruise‘s Mission: Impossible series with this year’s Rogue Nation. Honestly, I think McQuarrie and Cruise make for a perfect pairing, especially when they unleashed Jack Reacher onto us all not too long ago.

Rogue Nation was great and something that I hold rather closely with Ghost Protocol and M:I III as my high points of the M:I franchise.

And now it looks like McQuarrie might return for the next installment and suddenly I’m extremely conflicted.

See, until this point every single M:I film has been directed by someone new and that formula is something that I’ve not only come to expect, but also enjoy.

Sometimes a new storyteller is exactly what is needed to ensure a sequel that doesn’t feel too much like the last one and now with McQuarrie possibly coming back I can’t seem to figure out if I’m excited or not.

He’s an incredible filmmaker and one that seems to understand the M:I franchise and formula to a T, which means the sequel will probably be just as good, if not better than Rogue Nation, but on the other hand I feel like he should work on his own thing and let somebody else come in and shake up the M:I world.

Nothing is 100% locked in as of now, but it’s starting to sound more and more likely.
