Just last month, we reported that Paul Thomas Anderson is planning beginning production on Thomas Pynchon’s novel Inherent Vice. According to Showbiz411, it has now been confirmed that Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film will indeed be Inherent Vice and will star Robert Downey Jr. as Larry “Doc” Sportello. It’s now rumored that Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron is eyeing a role.
It’s being reported that Theron will be portraying Shasta Fay Hepworth, Larry “Doc” Sportello’s former lover who is now having an affair with a billionaire land developer by the name of Mickey Wolfmann. She asks Sportello for his private-eye assistance to help foil the plot hatched by Mickey’s wife to have Mickey institutionalized in a mental hospital.
The confirmation of Robert Downey Jr. starring and Charlize Theron potentially joining him makes this project even more promising. Perhaps PTA-muse Philip Seymour Hoffman could portray Mickey Wolfmann? That’ll be nice. It’s currently unknown when Paul Thomas Anderson plans to shoot Inherent Vice and when it’ll even be released. Paul Thomas Anderson is known for testing his fan’s patience with the long breaks between each of his films. Let’s just celebrate the fact that this project seems to be moving forward in a much faster pace. Check back for updates on Inherent Vice as they come in.
