Just a few days ago, director Bryan Singer tweeted the vague, but nonetheless official announcement that the next sequel in the superhero franchise titled X-Men: Apocalypse will arrive in 2016. Details have been very scarce besides the fact that the film will see the mutants square off against the villainous Apocalypse. Now a director has been confirmed.
According to Vulture, Bryan Singer will be returning to direct X-Men: Apocalypse after he finishes next summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. This would mark Singer’s return to back-to-back X-Men sequels since 2000’s X-Men and 2003’s X2.
Before you get too excited, just remember that X-Men: Days of Future Past is still on its way. The film will combine the casts of the original X-Men cinematic universe with the cast of X-Men: First Class. With Singer returning to direct, this only means that 20th Century Fox undoubtedly has confidence in the director and what he has accomplished with X-Men: Days of Future Past. Let the anticipation build.
