Bruce Willis To Star In Eli Roth-Directed ‘Death Wish’ Remake

Death Wish is one of those films that most consider the absolute action revenger. The film, which starred Charles Bronson, was violent and crazy and even spawned quite a few sequels. Think of it as a much better version of this generation’s Taken series (no, I’m not comparing the two in terms of quality).

A remake has been lingering and lingering, with Bruce Willis set to star.

Today, we’ve learned that horror director Eli Roth is now officially attached to the film and with him comes the following information:

Eli Roth is set to direct Death Wish, the MGM/Paramount remake of the 1974 hit with Bruce Willis playing the reluctant vigilante made famous by Charles Bronson. It becomes the latest effort by Roth to move from his bloody genre-film origins to studio fare…

Roth will direct the script by Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski. Joe Carnahan scripted the original.

I think this is big and mostly good news. Roth may not be the best filmmaker, but he’s definitely the right pick. Death Wish is all about exacting revenge and Roth’s horror films have almost all had some sort of gory revenge sequence. I feel like his ability to bring in spectacular practical effects, plus his eye for revenge might just be what the Death Wish remake needs.

Should this film exist? Probably not. But could Roth help give it a B movie vibe, while also maybe capturing some sort of emotion from Bruce Willis? I think so.

Consider me curious.
