After the recent news concerning Sylvester Stallone‘s takeover of the production on the film Bullet to the Head, many have been wondering what the status of his next directorial effort Rambo 5 was. Screenwriter Sean Hood said the project was on hold until Stallone finished The Expendables 2 and after hearing of Walter Hill‘s departure from Bullet to the Head, it seems Stallone is a busy man once again. He’s also slated to star in The Tomb with Arnold Schwarzenegger, so I’m assuming Rambo 5 would happen after all of that, especially since Hood said on Twitter: [Stallone] “hasn’t decided if R5 will be an Unforgiven or a ‘passing of the torch.'”
So it seems the idea of Rambo vs Aliens has gone by the wayside in favor of more a final stand type film, as Stallone told Macleans.ca “[John Rambo’s] in Arizona on the border, it will involve him going into Mexico. I don’t think Rambo likes Mexicans.”
Interesting comments from an interesting guy, I suppose. When asked by ScreenRant whether he would kill one of his most famous characters off, he replied with a quick “Yeah.”
Could this be Rambo’s final stand? Or is he saving the death of Rambo for another film entirely? It’s only a matter of time before he can’t physically perform the necessary stuff for Rambo movies, so maybe that’s why he’s thinking of wrapping the character up, or passing the torch to someone else. An actual movie based on the son of Rambo (that aren’t 2 little British kids?) We shall see while Stallone continues his action comeback.
