I have some bad news, folks. In a recent interview with ScreenCrush, actress Brie Larson has revealed that she will not appear in 22 Jump Street, Chris Miller and Phil Lord’s sequel to their breakout comedy hit 21 Jump Street. Larson recently met with the directors to discuss the sequel, which would presumably focus on Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum going undercover in college (as teased at the end of the first film). It’s during this meeting that she discovered that she would not be included.
“After speaking with them, it’s not something I’m going to be a part of anymore than just in spirit,” Larson told ScreenCrush. “I will be a virtual cheerleader for those boys doing it again. And I’ll be so happy to see the movie and laugh as hard as I did during the first one. It’s not necessarily my choice. It’s not like they said, ‘Would you do it?’ and I said, ‘No.’ That’s just the way the story goes.”
Although Larson was equally as charming as the bromance between Hill and Tatum, it’s easy to understand why she may not be needed considering the sequel’s focus will be development of the main character’s partnership as they crack a new case.
Brie Larson next appears in the SXSW drama Short Term 12, the indie romance The Spectacular Now, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s directorial debut Don Jon.
22 Jump Street is set to arrive in theaters next summer on June 13th, 2014.
