World War Z was an interesting film, part decent zombie film, part passable summer blockbuster. I enjoyed how large the scope was and I found Brad Pitt‘s hair to be mostly enjoyable, but I can’t say that I have been begging for a sequel.
But hey, it made money — enough for Paramount to tell us that a sequel is coming in July of next year, despite a director not even being attached at this point.
J.A. Bayona ditched the project for Jurassic World 2, which is a fair abandonment, which leaves us director-less for a film that’s going to be shooting sooner rather than later.
The latest piece of scoop says that Pitt’s buddy and fellow director David Fincher is possibly eying the project.
Fincher is known for Se7en, The Social Network, Zodiac and more recently Gone Girl. He’s a man with a strong eye for atmosphere and composition and not quite the first name that pops into my head when you scream BLOCKBUSTER ZOMBIE MOVIE SEQUEL!
But hey, he did direct Alien 3, which is probably my personal favorite Alien film, despite the general negative feedback it has received from audiences and critics.
Is this simply a friend-to-friend chat that has escalated or does Fincher see something about this film that we don’t?
He better sign on, because he needs a tentpole series to call his own, especially after The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo didn’t quite pan out.
