Black Dynamite is one of the funnier movies in the past few years. Its spoof on blaxploitation films was spot on in its delivery from the cheap camera cuts to reuse of car explosion footage. Black Dynamite knew what shots to take, but also knew to bring it back at appropriate times. It was an all around silly movie that really worked.
From the cult success with the movie, a TV show on Adult Swim later arrived, it gives you reason that director Scott Sanders is not ready to let this one go. Why should he? If he can make another hit, he could seal it all up with a Black Dynamite trilogy.
In an interview with Crave Online, Michael Jai White explained what was planned for the Black Dynamite movies:
In the inception of Black Dynamite there were a few type[s] of ideas we were going to do. Kind of like Monty Python, use the same cast but do different type[s] of movies”. We had discussed, and it looks like we’re getting closer to the decision of something that would be a homage to Blazing Saddles. […] It’s a western comedy in that spirit of Blazing Saddles, but you mix that with Buck and the Preacher.
While I have never seen Blazing Saddles, I have heard good things about it. I like the Monty Python style of approach using the same characters, just in different settings. As long as their names are consistent so I can yell “CREEEEEAAAAAMMMM COOOOOORRRRNN” at the screen when it feels necessary.
What do you think of additional Black Dynamite movies? Are you for it or should they stop while they’re ahead?
