Bill Paxton and Edward James Olmos Join ‘2 Guns’

The project 2 Guns has been through a few incarnations the past few years, with Blake Masters’ (Showtime’s BrotherhoodAMC‘s Rubicon) adaptation of the graphic novel serving as the basis for the film.  At one point, the producers wanted to make it a comedy with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, but I think with more of a Justified-style approach, it could be a ridiculously entertaining movie.  Both the graphic novel and the script are like a Donald E. Westlake setup set in an Elmore Leonard western world, and as a straight up comedy, I don’t know how well it would work.

Luckily, at this point, Wilson and Vaughn are out, and director Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband, which is a remake of his own Reykyavik-Rotterdam) has stepped in, bringing along his star Mark Wahlberg with him, and also signing Denzel Washington on to the film, continuing his streak of doing action movies.  Blake Masters is one of my favorite TV writers and his 2 Guns script was excellent, so count me in for this one.  For those that haven’t read the graphic novel, I recommend it to fans of the heist genre, although I’m not sure this is the best cast for the material, however, I’m willing to give it a chance.

Now, they’ve taken another step in the right direction, casting Bill Paxton in the film, and Edward James Olmos as an antagonist in the film, so it looks like the film is shaping up nicely, set to begin filming very soon.  We’ll keep you updated as we get closer to the release of the film, and we see some pictures or footage.
