Oscar-winner George Clooney is a jack-of-all-trades in Hollywood. He is not only an actor, he’s also a director, writer, and producer. After winning an Oscar earlier this year for Argo, Clooney is wasting no time to set himself up for more potential Oscar glory. The production of Clooney’s next directorial project The Monuments Men began production early last month and now we have our first behind-the-scenes look at director and lead actor Clooney and his co-star Matt Damon in action. Based on the book by Robert M. Edsel, The Monuments Men is Clooney’s follow-up to the underrated film The Ides of March. The film has a solid supporting cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, and Hugh Bonneville. Check out the images below courtesy of ComingSoon.
Official plot synopsis:
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.
The Monuments Men is in production through June. The film is going to be released on December 18th, 2013. I have a strong feeling that we’ll be hearing and reading a lot about this film later this year throughout the next Oscar season.
