Baz Luhrmann Needs Help Funding The Great Gatsby

Baz Luhrmann‘s The Great Gatsby was supposed to release on Christmas Day, but out of nowhere Warner Bros. pulled it and shuffled it to the summer of 2013. Most thought of this sudden change simply as them pulling out of the awards race and trying to capitalize on the stars and the source material during the open landscape of the summer, but I always had a bad feeling in my gut.

The Herald Sun reports that Luhrmann actually needs more funding for the film and WB won’t budge. They’ve already dropped $127 million on the project and there doesn’t seem to be much wiggle room. Apparently Luhrmann wants to do some reshoots that include bringing back important cast members like Tobey Maguire.

I’m kind of curious to see what happens if none of these private investors that Luhrmann is approaching forks over any money. Will the film just sit unfinished or will WB take creative control and kick Luhrmann to the curb?
