Since the film was first announced, Zack Snyder’s sequel to Man of Steel has been referred to simply as Batman vs. Superman. The fact is that the sequel is still untitled. Many fans have been hoping that Warner Bros. will title the sequel World’s Finest but that may throw a few people off who aren’t familiar with the original comic. That fact will change real soon as Warner Bros. has registered a few potential titles through the Internet brand protection company MarkMonitor and they’re all really bad.
Here are the registered titles that have been noted by Fusible (via ComingSoon):
Man of Steel Battle the Knight
Man of Steel Beyond Darkness
Man of Steel Black of Knight
Man of Steel Darkness Falls
Man of Steel Knight Falls
Man of Steel Shadow of the Night
Man of Steel The Blackest Hour
Man of Steel The Darkness Within
It appears that Warner Bros. really want to title the film Man of Steel so people know that it’s still primarily a Superman film. However, all of these titles are very bland and generic for such a great cinematic concept. Others have suggested that these registered titles may be used primarily for marketing and merchandising.
Here’s an obvious idea: Since Warner Bros. wants to include Man of Steel in the title and comic fans want the title to be World’s Finest, how about title the sequel Man of Steel: World’s Finest?
The Man of Steel sequel, or whatever it will be blandly titled, will arrive in theatres on July 17th, 2015. Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne star in the film. What do you think of the titles? Do you think Warner Bros. should stick to titling the sequel Batman vs. Superman?
