Anthony’s Weekly Blu-Rays: June 21-27

Once again we find ourselves with a busy week when it comes to Blu-ray’s coming out. Of course this busy week doesn’t necessarily mean that they are good releases. Of the many that are being released I can say that there is one that I’m buying and one that has potential but I will most likely pass on just like the rest. Of all the Blu-rays that are either being released or re-released I’m only going to cover six.

I’m going to start off with my favorite release of the week; Cedar Rapids. Under certain circumstances Tim Lippe, played by Ed Helm, is sent to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to represent the insurance company that he works for at an annual convention. While Lippe is in Iowa he is to behave and stay out of trouble however he has no idea what he is getting himself into. Upon getting to the convention he finds himself under the guidance of three veterans, one of which he was told specifically to stay away from while he was there. Cedar Rapids is being released as a single disc Blu-ray and a digital copy which looks to be good quality, video and audio wise. Cedar Rapids hit theaters on February 11, 2011 and it brought in a total domestic gross of $6.8 million dollars. Keep in mind that it only went as wide as 462 theaters. I have seen this more than once while it was in theaters and I laughed just as much the second time as I did the first!

Matt Damon stars in The Adjustment Bureau which is being released as a Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy combo pack. Matt Damon‘s character, David Norris, is on the verge of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate while he meets a women who he falls for. However there is a group of mysterious men who attempt to keep them apart at all costs because they need their futures to be separated. You watch as Norris fights the power of the mysterious group of men and also to keep his new love. Personally I didn’t like this movie all that much, but this was the movie that I was on the fence about getting.  This production had a budget of $50.2 million and it ended up bringing in $62 million domestically. All I really can say about this movie, damn those hats are magic!

Unknown stars Liam Neeson as a man who awakens from a coma while on vacation only to find out that someone has taken his identity and that nobody believes him when he tells people who he is. His own wife doesn’t even believe him when he tries telling her. With the help of a local young women, he sets out on a mission to prove that he is who he says he is. If you have seen this movie you will realize that it’s kind similar to Neeson’s earlier movie, Taken. Taken was much better and I honestly felt like Unknown was just a dumbed down version of that. Well you’ll be able to find this movie in two different versions on the shelves. First off will be just the single disc Blu-ray and the second is two disc set. That two disc set contains the Blu-ray, DVD and the Digital Copy.

The other three that are being released are; The Eagle, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules and Happythankyoumoreplease. Yes, that is really the name of the movie, no spaces at all. The Eagle you’ll be able to find in a Blu-ray and digital copy pack. Roderick Rules will be coming in a combo pack; Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy. Last but not least Happythankyoumoreplease will be releasing as a single Blu-ray disc. I haven’t heard much about the Happy movie, however I have heard nothing but terrible things for The Eagle. Therefore I have no interest in it.

This week I’m not going to touch on catalogs or re-releases however next week it appears its hell week and that’s all there is for Tuesday. It looks like next week is going to be absolutely crazy. It’s crazier than this week and last week put together just because of the re-releases. Regardless, make sure you check back next week for the crazy, crazy release schedule.
