This is the one guys! This new trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes manages to capture the emotions of the character Caesar, by showing you his full uprising from baby to adult. We get more footage of his interactions with humans and we get a better sense of what this film is trying to accomplish. All of the shots including Caesar in this trailer are so god damn good. The trailer also gives you a glimpse of the rise towards the end of the film and boy does it look chaotic. I am begging Fox not to fuck this one up. It has so much potential to be an amazing film with a serious tone, but it still has that slight possibility of being heartless and shallow.
I don’t think Fox realizes what this could do for fully rendered CGI characters. This could be the next step after District 9 in the evolution of making truly genuine characters from digital effects. Notice how I always forget to mention Avatar? Yes, Avatar had some impressive effects and it did change the game up quite a bit, but I honestly never felt that engaged with the actual characters of the film. I was more impressed by the world that it took place in and the way it infused the 3D.
District 9 was the last great movie to properly give you CGI characters with a wide range of emotions and feeling and Rise of the Planet of the Apes could be the next, on a more epic scale.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars James Franco, Andy Serkis and Freida Pinto. It will be released on August 5th, 2011 here in America and August 12th over in the United Kingdom.
