Anne Hathaway Wants To Star In A Solo Catwoman Film

I think we can all come to an agreement when I say that Anne Hathaway‘s Selina Kyle was the most exciting character in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises. Sure, Bane was menacing and a physical beast and Alfred’s emotional journey was heartfelt, but Hathaway’s Selina Kyle aka Catwoman was sexy, dangerous and downright interesting. We never got a look into her past, which is probably due to the already long running time, but that doesn’t mean her background will go unknown forever.

Hathaway has expressed interest in playing the character in a possible solo film, which would have to take place in the same Gotham City that was established in Nolan’s Batman films. Here’s what she told Digital Spy:

“I didn’t want to focus on the other people’s interpretation of it because I didn’t see where that would get me; it would only be a rehashing of something already done – and done very well […] “I thought it was probably best to focus on being a part of Chris Nolan’s Gotham City […] I think it would be lovely to see more of her but only if it’s with the right people […] She lives in this Gotham City and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least.”

Christopher Nolan has mentioned time and time again that he’s done with the character of Batman and that he won’t be returning in any way, but he did have positive things to say about Hathaway and her portrayal of the character. Here’s what he said to Access Hollywood:

“Anne is incredibly precise and articulate about the psychology of the character. She’s really built it from the ground up, it’s just a delight to watch her perform, the things she does in those heels is not to be taken lightly. [..] She’s an incredible character and we’re very excited to see her and hopefully we’ll leave people wanting more […] For me, Gotham and these characters, I’m done. I’ve told our story and I’m moving on […] I certainly think she deserves [a solo film], she’s incredible.”

I’d like to think of this as a positive sign. Perhaps Nolan can recommend someone that would be able to take over his city and make a grounded Catwoman film that takes place in a familiar Gotham City. Hathaway wants to return and Warner Bros. is running out of franchises, so it would be in there best interest to somehow make this work!
