The Avengers seems to be on everyone’s mind as of late. After its massive box office haul for the past three weeks people just haven’t been able to switch their brains off. The latest comes from Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield, who has seen the film and plans on checking it out again.
He mentions in an interview with Vulture that he’d love to join the cast of The Avengers 2. Obviously there is some contractual stuff that probably wouldn’t allow this sort of cross-over to happen, but I wouldn’t completely count it out. Here’s what he said:
Q: Have you seen The Avengers? If Sony would let you assemble, would you? After all, Spidey eventually becomes a member of the team in the comics.
AG: I saw it, and I was blown away. And I’m going to see it again this weekend. I have no problem adding to the amount of money it’s making! [Laughs.] Joss Whedon is a genius, and it’s an incredible cast. I was very, very jealous, and I wanted to jump on the screen and play with them. It killed me that I wasn’t in it, but I understand why, and I’m not insulted. But hey, if Samuel L. Jackson wants to give me a shout, I’m there for the next one!
I think it would be a really smart play for Sony to try and negotiate something with Disney to get Spider-Man into The Avengers 2, especially if The Amazing Spider-Man doesn’t pan out the way they want it to. I’d love to see the cross-over and I only see it being a good thing for both brands.
This sort of thinking might have to wait until after July 3rd, when The Amazing Spider-Man officially opens in theaters!
