After starring in some abysmal comedies as of late, it looks like Adam Sandler is finally making another career turn. Last month, it was announced that Sandler would be appearing in Jason Reitman’s next film Men, Women and Children along with Jennifer Garner and Rosemarie DeWitt. TheWrap has now reported that Sandler is currently in talks for the lead role in The Cobbler, a new indie drama from The Station Agent and Win Win director Thomas McCarthy.
In the film, Sandler would play a shoe repairman with the ability to literally walk in other people’s shoes so he can metaphysically step into their lives for a certain period of time. The Cobbler will be McCarthy’s next film as his Catholic Church sex scandal drama Spotlight tries to find a new distributor after DreamWorks recently bailed.
I’m thrilled about this. Sandler has already proven that he can be an impressive dramatic actor in films such as Punch Drunk Love, Spanglish, and Reign Over Me. For a moment, I was worried that Sandler would continue his career downfall but it looks like he is taking the step into the right direction.
