The Avengers is heading to Blu-ray shortly (on September 25th), which means Marvel/Disney has slowly started releasing some of the deleted clips and scenes. We already showed you the alternate opening, which changed the tone of the film, but mostly wouldn’t have impacted the overall film all that much. This deleted Captain America scene however would have greatly improved the film, especially Chris Evans‘ character.
Evans’ Capt. was the most distant of the bunch and that was because he just woke up after being asleep for years. Instead of giving us a better look at what exactly was going through the lonely soldier’s mind, director Joss Whedon simply summed it up in a brief punching bag scene that was promoted at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger and then later reused, but cut slightly different in The Avengers.
We never got an extensive look at Captain America and how he exactly felt in the new world, but I’m assuming Whedon wanted to keep things as tight as possible and never go off tracks too much with one particular character. I would have actually preferred if this clip made it into the film, because it provides the character with some much-needed emotional sympathy and it really helps puts thing into perspective.
Watch the clip below and let us know if you think it should have been left in.
