21 Jump Street is easily the funniest film of 2012. I don’t even know how many times I’ve seen it at this point, but I’m willing to guess well over ten or fifteen.
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill showed perfect chemistry as the leading men and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller showed their ability to shoot R-rated comedy with hyper attention, charm and a general craziness that made the material pop.
Sony clearly wants to re-create that magic, which is why they’ve confirmed a sequel, which will enter production this fall and hit theaters on June 13th, 2014.
This news initially worried me, because the returning cast was confirmed, but not the directors. Now, Sony has confirmed the entire ensemble cast as well as the directors, which means I can rest happily knowing that there’s still a slight chance that this one manages to be just as good, if not better than the first go.
Sequels rarely top their predecessors, but taking the characters to college does open up a whole new window of comedic opportunities to explore.
We’ll keep you updated with more 21 Jump Street 2 information as we get it.
