‘V/H/S’ Gets Release Date; ‘Lockout’ Pushed Up

The Sundance found footage horror hit V/H/S got picked up by Magnolia for release later in the year, and now they’ve announced the dates when you can see the film.  It will hit VOD on August 31st, before hitting limited theaters October 5th, just in time for Halloween crowds.  The film’s segments were directed by Radio Silence (also known as the comedy team Chad, Matt, & Rob), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead), David Bruckner (The Signal), Ti West (who is quickly gaining notoriety with each film he releases like The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers), Joe Swanberg, and his good friend/frequent collaborator Adam Wingard (whose A Horrible Way to Die and You’re Next have gained him great critical praise).

The film sold in a fierce bidding war after the screening at Sundace, and many have said the film is yet another interesting take on the found footage genre, which is refreshing as typical found footage films have begun to clutter theater screens nationwide (with the exception of Evidence), so I can’t wait until we get a peek at the film in late August, when I’ll have the review (as I’ve become resident VOD guy).

In an interesting move, FilmDistrict has decided to release the new Guy Pearce sci-fi film Lockout up a week to April 13th, where it will go up against The Cabin in the Woods, considered an odd move by some, as a week later it has less genre competition.  The Luc Besson-produced movie has had little press and until the trailer was released, most didn’t know it even existed.  However, it looks like it will be a interesting flick, so we are glad to hear the news.  Anyone else interested in this one?
