Tomb Raider Reboot Delayed Until First Quarter 2013

After being announced in late 2010, not much has been seen or heard from the anticipated reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise since. A short game play preview was shown at the E3 Expo last year but nothing since. Well today, Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher revealed that the studio has decided to take additional development time before releasing the game.

“Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013,” Gallagher stated. “We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait.”

He did state that the company would have a presence at this years E3 Expo and would be showing the game. Guess we’ll have to wait a bit longer than expected to start raiding tombs again.

You know who’d be great in this role? Gina Carano. Look at how much ass she kicked in Haywire. She’s sexy enough to pull it off too. Love to see this series take on a more serious tone instead of “pretty girl beats people up” movie. Could be a great movie with all the material available.
