You heard it right; The Dark Knight Rises will take place a whopping 8 years after the events of The Dark Knight. Although some of you may not see that as much news let me remind you that Warner Brothers is in charge of the film, which means this time stretch gives them plenty of room to make spinoff films, comics, games and whatnot to help bridge the gap. That means that if time doesn’t land on Christian Bale‘s side he could come crawling back for some prequel to The Dark Knight Rises just for a quick paycheck or another shot in the spotlight.
I sure hope Christopher Nolan has a real enough reason for this gap, something that pertains to the actual story and not just a request by Warner Brothers to cover their asses. Are you worried about the film not feeling complete with this bridge in time or do you think it’s exactly what Nolan and crew wants?
Another piece of news mentions that Tom Hardy‘s Bane is kept alive by gas, which is why he wears the mask and gear. I’m only familiar with the previous Bane character from the Joel Schumacher Batman film and I do recall him using the gas to get stronger, but I didn’t know it kept him alive. I probably never noticed because Schumacher never made the audience care about his characters.
The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters on July 20th, 2012.
Don’t forget to catch the opening minutes of the film in front of the IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which opens on December 16th, 2011.
