Alright, so first thing’s first, the upcoming Terminator reboot from Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna production company (which brought us The Master, Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty and other titles) is now titled Terminator: Genesis.
I know I know, that sounds like utter crap, but let’s remember that only the original Terminator film and its sequel were quality films in the series that has four entries. T1 and T2 will forever remain all-time classics for me, while T3 and T: Salvation mostly suck shit through giant robotic straws.
So, a reboot with a corny name isn’t the worst thing that could happen, right?
It looks like casting has started up, with Emilia Clarke confirmed for Sarah Connor and Jason Clarke rumored for John Connor. No, the two are not related in any way and their same last name is just a coincidence.
What this news really tells us is that they want the Connors in the film for sure. I thought maybe a reboot would focus on other aspects and other characters, but the casting of these two mean that they want an older John and a semi-young Sarah.
I’m not sure where this leaves me just yet, because rumors also have started floating around about this film introducing a new timeline to the series, possibly changing a few key moments from the original films.
It’s all too early for us really to start drawing conclusions, so let’s keep remaining optimistic about the project until more news comes tumbling out.
