It seems like a long time since we last wrote about Inherent Vice, the latest from director Paul Thomas Anderson. That’s because it has been a long time. The film wrapped production late last year in southern California and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, who scored Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, finished a score that’ll surely be memorable. Now, the film has an official release date.
Warner Bros. must have high hopes because the studio will be releasing the film, based on Thomas Pynchon’s 2009 novel, on December 12th, 2014. This prime release date certainly places it onto a slot poised for the next awards season.
The film centers on a stoner private eye detective by the name of Larry “Doc” Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) who is enlisted to help his former lover Shasta Fay Hepworth (Katherine Waterston) foil a plot to kidnap her billionaire boyfriend. The film features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, and Jena Malone.
With its release date, Inherent Vice will go up against Ridley Scott’s biblical epic Exodus starring Christian Bale, Aaron Paul and Joel Edgerton. Are you looking forward to this? I sure am.
